Hysterical. I couldn't stop laughing. I felt bad at some parts because it was so out there and so crazy but it's her life! I honestly couldn't putt the book down. All black people know someone like Rabbit or Ms. Pat and there is never a dull moment . You feel sorry for her but you realize she couldn't be who she is today without this wonderful, wickedly, delicious story. Please Ms. Pat I want happiness for you. Stay funny. Thanks for sharing this book with the world.
Fascinating and gripping; very well-written. I'm really glad that the author emerged from her terrible upbringing, and has a good life. This is no comedy, although there are some parts that are very funny. This is a tragedy, and the author is very brave for sharing the horrifying details of her upbringing, which unfortunately are familiar to me and probably to many other readers. Very enjoyable if sometimes difficult read.
I read this and cried inside the whole time, cheering Rabbit on every step of the way toward breaking the cycle of poverty. Not everyone born into the culture of poverty will come out of it--except the Rabbits of the world. Applause and high praise to Rabbit for sharing her nightmares...and her dreams.
Absolutely adored this. I recently decided not to buy anymore Kindle books that weren't on sale (I think 9.99-12.99 is too expensive), but came across this one, downloaded the sample, and couldn't resist. Patricia William writes so well and so funny and yet poignantly. Her detailed portraits of people are fantastic. She cracked me up within two pages of reading, and I don't crack up easy. This was truly not-put-down-able and I read it inside of twenty-four hours. I'd read anything she wrote.I loved the not infrequent references to Kathryn Chancelor of The Young and the Restless.Patricia puts you in her shoes and in the shoes of her family and friends. I understood her choices and their choices and would've made the same under the circumstances. I loved the teacher who taught her she could be anything she dreamed of.Highly recommended.
I have never heard of Ms. Pat. I actually finished reading another memoir and saw the title pop up. Because of my love for autobiographies I purchased the book curious from the title. This book was super good. It was like watching a movie. Thank you Pat for sharing your intimate story. I am not sure if I can find another book quite as interesting as yours. I'm grateful that you are living in your happy ending. From reading the book, I now know that you are a comedian, but I'm pretty sure that you will build a platform for motivational speaking really soon. So many of our teens and young adults need to hear your story. It was one worth telling. May God increase you more and more.
I bought this on Kindle. This book was at times disturbing, heartbreaking, but always funny and NEVER boring. I don't know how Patricia Williams managed to do that, but she did. She has a gift for words and a gift for description and characterization that goes beyond craft- it is inborn. I stayed up almost all night trying to finish this book. I didn't put it down until 3:30 a.m, and then only grudgingly. I kept thinking, "One more page" and then an hour later, "One more page." It was that good. Finished it the next day. Thank you, Ms. Pat. This is a powerful rendering of what true urban poverty looks like for all those people who are always preaching about damn "bootstraps."
This book gave great insight into the adverse conditions children have to grow up in when the people that are supposed to be taking care of them are hooked on drugs and are not capable of even taking care of themselves. I loved that Patricia took such good care of her own children. She did what she had to do and kept herself clean in the process. I loved this book. Thanks for writing it Patricia. I’m wishing you the very best life has to offer.
This book is more than inspirational. I, like many other Black girls, grew up in historical poverty. The single thing that separates my story from "Rabbit's" is---I had a loving mother. My mother had 7 children, was a drunk, no education, no mother of her own--but somehow, she got the love gene from GOD which she passed along to us.The book was so clear---your mother is the single person on earth who molds or impacts your self-image & your self-worth. But love--changes everything. Cudo's to you, Rabbit. You have the love gene that you are passing along to your children and your book is the inspiration many others can read to change their lives.
