OK, here's the lowdown on this... I used this and the official study materials from TEA to study for this test. I am an out of state educator with 19 years of experience, however, I read this book cover to cover, did the practice tests in the book and online. I passed the test the first time with lots of room to spare. I think if you really read this and dedicate just a few hours each day leading up to the test (I studied for a month), you will pass easily.

Pros: Good as a starter/refresher specially for a teacher that has been on a teaching hiatus or out-of-state educator, includes most competencies.Cons: Topics are not organized. NO index or glossary. Content is redundant. Little overprice for what it offers. No illustrations.The book helped me get started but I had to search for other resources online. If you have the money and have no idea where to get started I recommend you buying the book and reading it. If not, familiarize with the competencies (get test guide on ETS website) and build your own review material. There are tons of resources online, wish I could tell you but Amazon doesn't let me.I am certain that if the book had competencies organized into topics and subtopics, provided index/glossary, included and presented information in a more engaging and simple way (charts, diagrams, etc) it would be worth the money. But when you receive the book you realize that you have a lot of work since content is not cut to the chase and you need to summarize A LOT!

I bought this book and another book to prepare for the test. I chose both books because they had practice tests and were highly recommended by other reviewers. (I find that I do better with the diagnostic tests and/or practice tests so I know where to spend my study time.) Both practice tests were helpful because they helped to point me in the areas that I needed to understand better.This book provided a practice test with questions similar to questions found on the actual test. (i.e.- how to evaluate the level of Bloom's Taxonomy Questions and how to apply knowledge of Piaget's learning stages, etc.) Furthermore, the information was organized in an easy to read format. It gave more succinct summaries of needed info than the other book. This book also provided extra test taking strategies that I had never read before. (I didn't think it was possible.)The questions on the practice tests and the actual test had very similar and often more than one correct answer. You have to choose the best answer, prioritize what should come first or what would be more important in a given situation. You really must understand the concepts of theories in order to apply them to "ideal" classroom/work situations.Lastly, I did pass on the first attempt with about 3 weeks of studying.

The book came sooner than expected and helped me prepare for the exam. I am not from Texas so I felt the book gave me a better idea of what to expect on the exam, and the practice questions were very helpful. I easily passed the test the first time I took it (June 2014) so I can only assume that this book was a good material to help me study.

I first was thinking, oh my this is a lot to read with small letters and front and back and not really many blank pages. Lol. I thought this study would take forever, but the reading was very straight to the point and informative. I breezed through the book in no time and was able to retain the information with no problems. Great study guide and a cheat for day to day teaching.

While SOME information is invaluable (ELL) most of this is rushed and the questions do NOT resemble the practice test questions in the slightest. Use this as suppliment material but do not rely on it as your main study source!

I have enjoyed this book. This study guide has been so amazing to read. It has been easy and entertaining. It caught my attention where other books have not.

The product Is really good and it will give me the good description of all materials.As long it prepares me for the EC-12 test. I hope I will pass the test with the materials provided in this book. I suggest all test takers to purchase this book and get through the test. The test in the book will help me lot to prepare for the real test.
